Hello, my name is Alexander Obenauer.
I design products that solve unsolved problems in people’s lives. I founded Mindsense, where we've bootstrapped for 4 years with products like Throttle, a service that gives all-new levels of control over your inbox and email address, which has one of the rare few launches to reach 1K votes on Product Hunt, and the email app Mail Pilot, which became the #1 paid app in the entire Mac App Store within hours of its debut.
Product design is something I care deeply about, and bring a great deal of intentionality to. One of the topics I've often written on and spoken about is the intersection between product design and what cognitive science teaches us about optimal experience. I'm writing and publishing a book about just that, titled "The Psychology Behind Great Software Design".
I graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Computer Science and now live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I'm honored to serve as the Asst. Director of Make a Mark Roanoke - Blacksburg, and previously on the Board of Directors for the Roanoke - Blacksburg Technology Council. Also, after helping to start the event in 2011, I served on the steering committee for the first four years of TEDxVirginiaTech.
