Hello, my name is Alexander Obenauer.
I run Mindsense, where I design empathetic products that solve unsolved problems. Launched from a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, we build the email app Mail Pilot, which became the #1 paid app in the entire Mac App Store in over 50 countries when it debuted, and Throttle, which joined Product Hunt's 1K club as one of the top product launches ever on the platform.
I'm writing a book called Form Is Function, which is about how we use the psychology of optimal experience to design world-class products. Every other week, I send out The Thursday Edition (be sure to go subscribe), and I publish my writing on Medium which has been featured in Forbes, UXDesign, Google for Entrepreneur's Startup Grind, and AppAdvice.
I'm honored to serve as the assistant director for Make a Mark, a non-profit my (incredible) wife started that connects great local causes in 5 cities with local designers, developers, and other creatives to help them level up their impact with the kind of design and marketing their work truly deserves.
In a search to learn more about leading my own company, I interviewed 12 of the most successful founders out there and published their stories in a video web series and podcast called Founder Thunder Round.
I graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Computer Science — Go Hokies! — where I helped to start and lead TEDxVirginiaTech. In my time in Southwest Virginia after graduating from Tech, I served on the Board of Directors for the Roanoke - Blacksburg Technology Council and the Advisory Board of the Entrepreneur Club at Virginia Tech. I am a designer, developer, writer, and more — check out my full portfolio of work here.
